Customizing the Client Interface

ILLiad 8 allows staff to customize the layout of their client. Staff can have a different layout for borrowing, lending, and document delivery menus and requests. These customizations are specific to each staff user, so every person can have a different layout. Layouts can be saved and shared, and ILLiad administrators can easily copy their layouts to the rest of their staff from within the Staff Manager. For more information about customizing layouts in ILLiad 8, see the Atlas Documentation.

GIST utilizes customized queue categories and request layouts that can be further tailored to suit your needs.

Downloadable Interfaces

If you downloaded the sample request interfaces, you can implement them as follows:

  1. Unzip the GIST Custom Request Layouts.zip file to your ILLiad folder.
  2. While viewing the ILLiad main menu, right-click and choose Customize Layout.
  3. Click on the Open button and select the GIST Interface.xml file. This should provide you with the queue categories for Acquisitions.
  4. Open a borrowing request. Right-click and choose Customize Layout. Open and select the GIST Borrowing Layout.xml file.
  5. Open a document delivery request. Right-click and choose Customize Layout. Open and select the GIST Doc Del Layout.xml file.

For more information on queue categories and how to push layout changes to your staff, please read the following sections.

Queue Categories

In order to help your staff more easily distinguish between the Acquisitions and ILL/DD requests in the Document Delivery module, you can group the acquisitions queues into their own category. You can collapse and expand each category so that your Acquisitions and ILL staff can in effect hide the other’s requests while working. You can also rearrange the queues within each category (i.e. you can have Awaiting Acquisitions Processing appear at the top of the category), and you can also rearrange the categories within the Document Delivery menu (i.e. putting Acquisitions before Requests).

First, place a dummy purchase request using your own account. Once submitted, it will have the status of Awaiting Acquisitions Processing.

In the ILLiad 8 Client, click on the Document Delivery tab. Right click on the Awaiting Acquisitions Processing queue and select Add to New Category.

Name the new category Acquisitions (or a different name you wish to use). This will create your category.

Open the dummy request in the queue. Route it to Purchase Request Ordered from Vendor. Close the request and return to the Document Delivery menu.

Click and drag the Purchase Request Ordered from Vendor queue into the new Acquisitions category. When finished, open the request again, route it to the next custom queue for acquisitions, and drag that queue into Acquisitions. Repeat until all of the custom queues have been dragged into the Acquisitions category.

Copying Customized Layouts to Staff

With the ILLiad 8 client, each user can have his or her own customized layout. Because of this, you will need to copy your customized layouts and queue categories in order for your staff to use them.

Log into the ILLiad Staff manager. In the list of users (you may want to sort by username), select your username and click on the Copy Layout and Grid Settings button.

In the list of users that appears (you may want to sort by username), select the first staff person and click Copy Layout and Grid Settings.

Repeat copying the layout and grid settings for each remaining staff member.

Tip: make sure you have everything the way you want them before copying your layout to your staff. Although you can copy the settings at any time, it will reset any personal changes they have made.
